BioGRAPHY
Anjuli Bernstein is an American artist and designer based in Brooklyn, NY. She creates both fine artwork and bespoke handwoven fabrics for the interior design industry.
Within her art practice, her work explores themes of transformation, perception, and time. Her recent Volume Series is comprised of sculptural weavings that emerge from the loom in once piece. Through rigorous prototyping and material research, the structures push the limits of three-dimensional forms possible on the loom. The resulting pieces often seem precise and systematic, though upon closer inspection, the works reveal their natural materials and handmade origins. The use of abstract repeating patterns and diagonal compositions are employed to create a feeling of movement and dynamism that changes as the viewer walks around the work in space.
Anjuli founded her bespoke textile studio, Applied Arts, at the end of 2024. Her fabrics are informed by her career designing for companies such as Patterson Flynn, F. Schumacher & Co., Chilewich, and Sina Pearson Textiles, and combine a deep technical knowledge of weaves and fibers with her poetic sensibility.
