“In weaving these pieces, I wanted to investigate ideas of transformation through repetition and folded forms. There is a kind of change every stage: from the thread turning into fabric, from a flat fabric folding to become three-dimensional, and then that three-dimensional surface changing as the light shifts and casts different shadows. Our perception of the work changes as time passes throughout the day.
The diagonal is also important to indicate movement and momentum, conjuring up rippling water or someone’s stride. The pattern ends in the physical space, but can continue in the mind’s eye.” - Anjuli Bernstein
